How to Access Your Test Results

You can view your test results quickly and securely through the NHS App or your online GP account. This is the fastest and most convenient way to check your results without needing to call or visit the surgery.

If you are not yet registered for online services, please speak to our reception team or visit www.nhs.uk/nhs-app to get started.

For confidentiality reasons, we can only share test results with the patient themselves unless prior consent has been given.

When and Where Results Are Sent

All test results are first sent to the clinician who requested the test. This means:

  • If your hospital consultant or specialist requested the test, the results will go to them first. Your GP will gain a copy of the result later.
  • If your GP requested the test, the results will come directly to the practice.

Once received, the clinician will review the results and decide if any follow-up is needed.

How Long Do Results Take?

The time it takes for test results to come back can vary depending on the type of test:

  • Routine blood tests – usually available within 72 hours
  • HbA1c (diabetes monitoring) – up to 1 week
  • Rheumatoid arthritis tests – around 1 week
  • Coeliac disease tests – up to 2 weeks
  • Vitamin D levels – may take up to 3 weeks
  • Xray/MRI/Ultrasound/CT scans - around 2 weeks

Once your results are reviewed by a GP:

  • If no action is needed, you may not be contacted.
  • If follow-up is required, we will get in touch with you directly.

If you have not heard from us and are concerned, please feel free to contact the surgery after the expected timeframe
