A Carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. The care they give is unpaid.

Why It’s Important to Tell Us
Letting us know that you are a Carer helps us support you as well as the person you care for. When you register as a Carer with us:
- More information becomes available to you – including local support services, benefits advice, and Carers’ rights.
- Your own health is prioritised – we’ll make sure your care isn’t overlooked, and we can offer flexible appointments where possible.
- We can communicate more effectively – with the patient's consent, we can share relevant information to help you in your caring role.
What’s in a Carer’s Pack?
When you register as a Carer, we will offer you a Carer’s Information Pack, which includes:
- A welcome letter and guide to local support services
- Information on how to access respite care and emergency planning
- Details about Carers’ rights and financial support
- Contact information for local Carers’ groups and helplines
- Tips on looking after your own wellbeing
You can request a pack from our reception team or ask during your next appointment.
If someone helps care for you—whether they are a paid professional or a family member or friend—you can let us know so we can update your health records to reflect that you have a Carer.
Having this information helps us better support you during appointments, especially if you need assistance with attending or communicating. Keeping your records up to date ensures your visits run as smoothly as possible.
