Switching Profiles to Manage Care for Someone Else

If you are a parent, carer, or family member, you may be able to manage someone else's NHS services by switching to their profile. This is known as having a linked profile or proxy access. To set this up, both you and the person you’re supporting must be registered at the same GP surgery.

Once set up, you can switch profiles using the NHS App or by logging in through the NHS website.

How to Switch Profiles

Once your linked profile is active:

  1. Log in to the NHS App or NHS website.
  2. On the homepage, select Switch profiles.
  3. Choose the name of the person you want to act for.

You’ll be clearly shown when you’re using a linked profile, and you can easily switch back to your own profile at any time.

Managing Access to Your Own Profile

Your GP surgery can also help you manage who has access to your profile. This includes:

  • Granting or removing access for others
  • Choosing which services they can use on your behalf

If you are a younger person, your GP can explain what access options are available and how your information is protected.
